Summer in the City 2024
The Summer in the City series featured speakers from around the Bay Area in conversation with other leaders of the church. We’heard from a pastor in Egypt, deputies of General Convention, a local author and memoirist, and others.

- Cara Meredith. A noted speaker and cheerleader for humanity, Cara spoke about ‘How to be an Ally.’ This is a follow up conversation to our work with "Sacred Ground” here at St Mary’s as well as becoming Beloved Community in the Diocese of California. No previous experience required!
Cara Meredith is a writer, editor, and part-time minister. A former high school English teacher and nonprofit outreach director, she holds a master’s in theology and is author of The Color of Life (Zondervan) and the forthcoming Church Camp (Broadleaf). Ms Sarah Lawton, Chairperson of the Diocese of California and member of the Committee on Social Responsibility, deputation will present her reflections of the convention in conversation with Fr Eric.
Ms. Lawton is senior warden of St. John the Evangelist in the Mission District of San Francisco and is co-chair of the Diocese of California's deputation to General Convention. She is currently chair of the Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church and is convenor for The Consultation, a coalition of Episcopal progressive groups. She has worked since 2005 as the fundraiser for the UC Berkeley Labor Center, and before that worked for seventeen years on human rights and development issues in Central America.
